City Of Dearborn Heights is seeking a General Laborer – Water for the Department of Public Works in Dearborn Heights, MI. The role involves maintaining public facilities and performing outdoor maintenance tasks with physical exertion, often outdoors in varying weather.

Responsibilities include operating light equipment, repairing hydrants and mains, installing water services, and potentially driving trucks or snow removal equipment. CDL-B with air brake endorsement is required.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older and have earned a High School degree or equivalent.
• Must pass a Civil Service examination, including a background check and drug screening.
• Valid State of Michigan Commercial Driver's License - Class B with an Air Brake Endorsement.
• Must meet General Government Civil Service Driving Standards.

Responsibilities

• Jet sewers with a high-pressure water hose as part of a crew.
• Repair and maintain water hydrants and water gates.
• Repair water main breaks.
• Install water service by tapping the main line and hooking up to the curb box.
• Measure footage and install sod; pour concrete and operate cement mixer.
• Clean equipment and tools; may drive truck to worksite.
• May be upgraded to snow removal equipment.
