Job summary

IBTS - Institute for Building Technology and Safety seeks a Public Works Supervisor to coordinate daily field activities and oversee crews in the maintenance of public utilities and infrastructure in the Baton Rouge area.

The role requires strong leadership, MS4 knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple projects, plans, and safety protocols while coordinating with the Public Works Director and Engineering Department.

Qualifications

• Minimum education: high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Preferred: associate’s degree or technical college training in a related field.
• 5–7 years of related work experience or equivalent combination.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, direct, and oversee daily activities of field crews and contractors in maintenance and repair of public utilities and infrastructure.
• Supervise Public Works staff, ensure compliance with city standards and regulatory requirements, and support the Public Works Director.
• Schedule work, allocate resources, resolve field issues, and ensure safety and timely project completion.
• Inspect worksites for quality, safety, and compliance; provide coaching and performance feedback.
• Coordinate maintenance of streets, drainage, stormwater systems, signage, vegetation control, and right‑of‑way assets.
• Respond to citizen requests and manage Hold Harmless forms for off‑road drainage projects.
• Coordinate with Engineering for utility locates and oversee contractor performance and RFPs.
• Manage equipment, fleet assets, and asset documentation; ensure maintenance and accountability.
