Job summary

The City of Baltimore is seeking a Public Works Inspector II to ensure contractors comply with specifications, standards and codes for public construction projects. You will perform on-site inspections on highways, streets, bridges, water and wastewater systems, and other complex facilities.

This role involves outdoor work, possible evening/weekend hours, and moderate supervision. You will inspect and document activities, maintain daily logs, and verify compliance with project requirements.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
• AND
• Experience: Have four years of experience in performing construction inspection work in one of the following areas: highways, streets, bridges or water and sewer system facilities.
• OR
• Equivalency Notes: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver’s license or an equivalent driver’s license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit. PROVISIONAL DRIVER’S LICENSE OR LEARNER PERMITS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.

Responsibilities

• Perform on-site inspections of highways, streets, bridges, water and wastewater facilities or other complex construction projects to ensure compliance with specifications, standards and codes.
• Inspect construction projects to ensure compliance with construction specifications, standards and codes.
• Maintain a daily inspection log and complete routine forms/reports.
• Work outdoors with exposure to weather, dust, noise and traffic.
