Job summary

The Town of Vinton Public Works Department is seeking dependable Equipment Operators to support essential community operations and maintenance, keeping Vinton’s streets and infrastructure functioning for residents.

This role involves operating backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, snow removal, inspections, and teamwork with Public Works crews; a valid Virginia driver’s license and CDL Class B are preferred; high school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Qualifications

• Previous experience operating heavy equipment preferred
• Valid Virginia driver’s license; CDL Class B or ability to obtain required
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and teamwork
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, skid steers, and other machinery used in Public Works operations
• Perform street maintenance, utility work, snow removal, storm response, and other municipal service tasks
• Conduct daily equipment inspections and report necessary maintenance
• Follow all town, state, and federal safety policies and procedures
• Assist with manual labor and crew duties when equipment operation is not required
• Work collaboratively with Public Works teams to complete projects efficiently and safely
