Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking skilled workers to perform equipment operations, preventive maintenance, and manual labor for roadway maintenance. This essential role includes snow removal, road debris clearance, and traffic control in accordance with MUTCD and safety regulations.

Candidates should be able to operate a range of highway equipment, perform pre-trip inspections, and work as part of a crew to complete projects.

Qualifications

• Must communicate effectively in writing and orally.
• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months.
• Experience with highway maintenance equipment and materials is preferred.
• Knowledge of safety rules and MUTCD is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Operate light to heavy highway equipment for maintenance and construction tasks.
• Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on vehicles and equipment.
• Prepare equipment for snow/ice removal and other emergency operations.
• Follow work plans, safety regulations, and PPE requirements.
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas.
• Install and remove traffic control devices using MUTCD guidelines.
