Job summary

City of Lancaster seeks a dedicated crew member to safely operate trucks and heavy equipment in streets, water, and sewer projects. You will drive dump trucks, use a snowplow, and handle trailers, with requirements for a PA Class B CDL.

Qualifications

• Graduation from High School or completion of a GED is required.
• Possession of a valid Class B commercial driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
• One year of experience in the operation of heavy automotive equipment.
• Preference will be given to candidates with a Class A license.
• Water T&D and Wastewater: tanker endorsement (N) or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
• Construction/Pipe Crew: Class B license with ability to obtain Class A within 3 months.
• Snow removal and paving experience preferred.
• Experience around motorized equipment (e.g., backhoe) and safe practices.

Responsibilities

• Drive a dump truck to haul construction materials and supplies for street projects.
• Operate a dump truck with a trailer and a truck-mounted snowplow.
• Safely enter/exit and work within manholes or confined spaces as required.
• Perform manual labor: loading/unloading, digging, tree work, and brush cutting.
• Operate a Vactor truck for wastewater collection and hydro-excavation tasks.
• Maintain knowledge of safe practices and assist in general public works duties.
• Be available for overtime, long hours, and after-hours emergency responses.
