Job summary

The Town of Minturn is hiring a Public Works Equipment Operator I or II in the Public Works Department. You will operate snowplows, loaders, graders, trucks and other heavy equipment to maintain streets, utilities, parks and Town infrastructure. Public Works Equipment Operator I / II — CDL, Snowplow & Heavy Equipment Operator

Operator I Hiring Range: $29.61–$34.05/hour
Maximum Pay:$44.27/hour

Operator II Hiring Range: $35.54–$40.87/hour
Maximum Pay:$53.12/hour

The Town of Minturn is seeking a Public Works Equipment Operator I or II to join its Public Works Department. This is a year-round position involving the operation of snowplows, loaders, graders, trucks, and other light and heavy equipment used to maintain streets, utilities, parks, and other Town infrastructure.

Candidates with a Class B CDL and experience operating snowplows, loaders, graders, or other heavy equipment are encouraged to apply. Operator I candidates may obtain the required Class B CDL within six months of hire.

Employee housing may be available but is not guaranteed.

The Town of Minturn owns a limited number of employee housing units, which may be assigned based on operational needs, unit availability, and the timing of hire.

Current employee rental rates (subject to change):

• 1 bed / 1 bath — $1,200 per month
• 2 bed / 1 bath — $1,350 per month
• 3 bed / 2 bath — $1,450 per month

Rental housing is offered under a separate lease agreement with the Town and is contingent on continued employment.

A housing stipend of up to $450 per month may also be available to eligible employees who do not occupy Town-provided housing.

Eligibility, stipend amount, and duration are subject to Town policy, available funding, and applicable program requirements.

General Statement of Duties:

Performs skilled work in the operation of snowplows and light and heavy equipment used in the construction, repair, and maintenance of streets, utilities, parks, and other public infrastructure. Work includes operating dump trucks, snowplows, loaders, graders, tractors, and related heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner; performing routine servicing and minor maintenance of equipment; and assisting with manual labor tasks as needed.

Employees in this classification are expected to exercise sound judgment, follow established safety procedures, and work effectively in varying weather and traffic conditions. The position plays an important role in the Town's winter snow and ice removal operations and may require early-morning, overnight, weekend, holiday, after-hours, or on-call work during snow events and other emergencies.

Operator I Duties

• Operates trucks, snowplows, loaders, graders, tractors, and other light and heavy equipment associated with street and infrastructure maintenance, construction, snow and ice removal, and related Public Works operations.
• Cleans, services, and makes minor repairs to assigned equipment, including checking for leaks, broken parts, and correct fluid levels; reports equipment problems to supervisor.
• Operates a variety of small hand tools.
• Performs manual work associated with equipment operations.
• Completes daily work reports and documents repairs or maintenance performed on equipment.
• Directs traffic at work sites.
• Performs duties in a safe manner and maintains awareness of others in the work area.
• Required to respond to duty calls during off-hours if contacted by the Town. May be placed on official on-call duty at various times.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Operator I Qualifications

Required:

• Valid driver's license and a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
• Valid Class B Colorado Commercial Driver's License or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
• May be required to obtain additional certifications depending on area of assignment, including certifications related to gravel, traffic control, or asphalt maintenance.
• Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy materials, supplies, and equipment (25–50 lbs.) frequently and heavy materials, supplies, and equipment (50–100 lbs.) occasionally.
• Work requires continued walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.
• Ability to use tools and equipment that require a high degree of dexterity.
• Ability to work in an environment with frequent exposure to dirt, dust, temperature extremes, noxious fumes and odors, moving vehicles, construction equipment, machinery, and ungraded terrain.
• Ability to operate machinery and equipment associated with road maintenance and match equipment operation to the situation.
• Ability to use equipment to perform a wide variety of tasks with accuracy and precision.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions in order to operate machinery and other equipment.
• Ability to learn to use machinery or equipment to perform more advanced tasks.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to interact courteously with fellow employees, residents, businesses, and the public while performing assigned duties.
• Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail.

Preferred:

• One year of experience operating light construction equipment or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Previous experience operating snowplows, loaders, graders, dump trucks, or other heavy construction or road-maintenance equipment.
• Certifications related to gravel, traffic control, or asphalt maintenance.
