Job summary

Island County in Washington state seeks a seasoned Supervisor to lead the Public Works transportation infrastructure team from conception through design, permitting and construction. The role oversees a nine-member crew with specialties in engineering, drafting, surveying, inspection, construction administration, and ROW.

Salary is posted within a range and depends on qualifications. The department offers a robust benefits package including 100% of medical and basic dental premiums for employees

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or college degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Public Works or related field.
• Professional Civil Engineer license preferred.
• Eight years of progressively responsible experience managing complex public works construction projects.
• Five years of supervisory or managerial experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and coordinates Public Works capital and maintenance projects and related activities.
• Schedules and assigns work to meet timelines and budget.
• Reviews complex Civil Engineering reports, designs, plans, specs and cost estimates.
• Coordinates with federal, state, county and local governments, utilities, private owners and other departments.
• Manages property acquisition activities for public works projects.
• Ensures technical oversight of County Public Works Projects.
• Prepares required reports for County Road Administration Board and capital plans.
• Engages with the public on engineering matters.
• Performs other tasks as directed.
