Job summary

Lane County is seeking a strategic, thoughtful Public Works Director who can guide eight divisions and align operations with the County’s goals. The successful candidate will build relationships with elected officials, Executive Leadership, and the public while delivering cost-conscious, high-quality services.

The Director reports to the County Administrator, fosters cross-functional collaboration, and stewards department finances and assets.

Qualifications

• Ten years of progressively responsible leadership experience in public administration with a focus on public works is required.
• A bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, civil engineering, environmental services, or a closely related field is required.
• Experience in a unionized environment is ideal.

Responsibilities

• Provide executive leadership for Lane County’s Public Works Department and its eight divisions.
• Oversee budget, expenditures, and resource allocation to support cost-conscious service delivery.
• Serve as liaison with elected officials, County leadership, and community partners; align department objectives with County goals.
