Job summary

The City of Gastonia is seeking motivated Construction Workers to assist in a variety of city infrastructure projects, including roads, sidewalks, and storm drainage. Work is performed under supervision and focuses on safe, efficient completion of tasks.

Minimum pay is $18.83 per hour. Requires a valid driver’s license; NC Class A CDL with Tanker endorsement preferred. Candidates must pass drug screening and background checks.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent with novice to intermediate experience in construction and/or maintenance.
• Or any combination of education and experience.
• Valid Driver’s License; NC Class A CDL with Tanker endorsement preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in construction and maintenance of roads, sidewalks, bridges, storm drains and buildings.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, dump trucks, backhoes, loaders and other equipment.
• Set up and clean construction sites; follow safety protocols to minimize accidents.
• Coordinate work activities with supervisors and other departments/contractors.
• Perform debris removal and preventive maintenance during snow/ice and storms.
