Job summary

The City of Hutchinson is seeking a Construction Engineering Technician to inspect public and privately funded city-wide improvement projects under the Construction Manager. You will perform advanced field inspections, topographic surveys, land retracements and construction staking with strong mechanical, communication, and organizational skills.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, five+ years of public works or construction experience, and a valid Kansas driver's license; KDOT

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Five or more years of public works or construction experience required.
• Basic understanding of surveying preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspects construction of street improvements, bridges, storm drains, and utility systems.
• Interprets construction plans, specifications and detail sheets.
• Inspects pipe laying for alignment, grade, joints and materials.
• Uses standard survey principles to survey city projects.
• Reviews detour plans, haul routes, and erosion control plans.
• Keeps logs, records and as-builts; prepares reports as needed.
• Reviews and recommends solutions to construction issues and site conditions.
• Coordinates construction survey, soil and material testing and related services.
