The City of Hutchinson is seeking a Construction Engineering Technician to inspect public and privately funded city-wide improvement projects under the Construction Manager. Under the direction and supervision of the Construction Manager, the Construction Engineering Technician inspects construction of all types of publicly and privately funded city-wide improvement projects and watches for public safety. Incumbents must demonstrate the ability to independently perform advanced field engineering inspections. This employee should possess a strong mechanical aptitude, and strong communication, technical, and organizational skills. Additional responsibilities include performing topographic surveys, land retracements, and construction staking. Employees in this job classification routinely exercise interpretative judgement within prescribed standards and procedures with significant opportunity for discretion and independent action.
A high school diploma or GED is required. Post-secondary education in similar or related field is preferred.
Five or more years of public works and/or construction experience is required. Basic understanding of surveying is preferred.
Must possess a valid Kansas driver's license. KDOT certifications are highly desirable. Must obtain KDOT Basic Inspection certification within one year of hire.
