Job summary

Interwest Consulting Group, established in 2002, seeks an Associate Civil Engineer to join the Public Works team in California. The role supports plan checks, permitting processes, and coordinate efforts with utilities and municipal departments on street, water, sewer, and drainage projects.

The ideal candidate holds a Civil Engineering degree and is pursuing an EIT or CA PE license, with strong communication and organizational skills. Competitive wages and comprehensive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• Understanding of engineering principles related to public works, utilities, and land development.
• Familiarity with land development and CEQA is preferred.
• Awareness of local, state, and federal regulations relevant to public works and development.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Exposure to AutoCAD 3D, GIS, ArcView, or ArcInfo is a plus.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with plan checking for encroachment permits; land development grading plans, street plans, water & sewer plans, drainage plans, drainage studies.
• Review traffic control plans for compliance with standards.
• Coordinate with utilities, contractors, consultants, and municipal departments.
• Support construction management activities, including resolving field issues when needed.
• Prepare technical documentation, reports, and project correspondence.
• Provide Capital Improvement Plan project support to senior engineers and public works staff.
