Job summary

The City of Abilene Public Works Department is seeking an experienced City Engineer to lead citywide engineering activities, manage operations, and guide a high-performing team.

Reporting to the Director of Public Works, you will oversee design, permitting, and infrastructure development, develop capital improvement plans, and manage budgets and timelines. Texas-licensed P.E. and Floodplain Manager certification preferred; salary range is $150,000-$185,000 with DOE/DOQ.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field (ABET-accredited).
• Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible engineering experience after registration.
• Experience in organizational management and budget oversight.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, direct, and coordinate engineering activities citywide.
• Oversee engineering design, permitting, and infrastructure development projects.
• Develop short- and long-range capital improvement plans.
• Manage project budgets, timelines, and performance outcomes.
• Serve as a liaison to City leadership, boards, and the public.
