Job summary

The City of Phoenix Public Works Department seeks a Department Budget Supervisor to lead the development, administration, and monitoring of the operating budget and capital improvement program. You will guide budget methodologies, forecast financial needs, prepare complex reports, supervise staff, and collaborate with division leaders to align fiscal plans with department priorities.

Qualifications

  • Four years of professional level experience in budget or accounting, including one year of experience with complex financial systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
  • All finalists subject to criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development, analysis, and administration of the department operating and capital budgets.
  • Provide expert guidance on budget methodologies, forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Prepare and evaluate complex financial reports, expenditure projections, and cost benefit analysis.
  • Monitor budget performance and ensure compliance with city policies, financial standards, and reporting requirements.
  • Lead and supervise staff responsible for budget development, financial analysis, and grant tracking.
  • Coordinate with division leaders to align fiscal planning with operational needs, priorities, and performance targets.
  • Review and approve budget modifications, transfers, and financial recommendations.
  • Present budget information to department leadership, city management, and other stakeholders.
  • Support long range financial planning, revenue analysis, and scenario modeling.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial systems, processes, and reporting tools.
