Job summary

The role requires a licensed wastewater professional or equivalent, with 5+ years of supervisory experience leading 50+ staff.

Qualifications

Inframark is seeking a highly motivated Assistant Project Manager to serve as the second-in-command of a large municipal operations and maintenance team supporting critical public infrastructure. This leadership role oversees multiple utility divisions, including:

• Wastewater Treatment
• Water Treatment
• Water Distribution
• Sewer Collections
• Public Works Operations

The APM plays a critical role in operational strategy, workforce development, capital planning, and client relationship management. This is a key succession-planning role with significant exposure to leadership and future advancement opportunities.

What You’ll Do

Leadership & Operations

• Serve as the operational leader and trusted partner to the Project Manager.
• Lead and support a diverse workforce responsible for utility operations, maintenance, and public works services.
• Manage daily activities of wastewater treatment facilities and associated utility operations.
• Develop and implement operational improvements that enhance service quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
• Coordinate workforce planning, scheduling, and resource allocation across multiple departments.
• Foster a culture of accountability, safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Financial & Strategic Management

• Assist in developing and managing annual operating budgets.
• Monitor revenues and expenditures while analyzing monthly budget variances.
• Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and cost savings.
• Support planning efforts for major capital improvement projects and infrastructure investments.

Team Development

• Recruit, interview, train, mentor, and develop personnel.
• Provide coaching and performance feedback to supervisors and staff.
• Administer performance management and progressive discipline processes.
• Build high-performing teams through leadership, communication, and employee engagement.

Compliance & Client Relations

• Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
• Maintain accurate operational records and regulatory reports.
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with municipal clients and stakeholders.
• Support regulatory inspections, audits, and reporting requirements.

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

• Valid driver's license.
• Active Wastewater Operator License (or equivalent state-issued wastewater certification) preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of supervisory and operational experience in municipal wastewater operations.
• Experience managing, leading, or scheduling large teams of 50+ employees.
• Demonstrated experience leading teams in utility, municipal, public works, or wastewater environments.
• Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
• Proven ability to make sound operational, financial, and personnel decisions.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Physical Requirements

This position requires standing, walking, sitting, bending, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Work is performed in both office and field environments.
