Job summary

City of Antioch seeks an Assistant Engineer in the Public Works Department, Engineering and Development Services Division, to support review and approval of public improvements for new development and to assist in project inspection.

The role offers a pathway from Junior Engineer to Associate Civil Engineer, involving design, plans, cost estimates, grant applications and coordination with City divisions and external consultants. This is a full-time, on-site position with benefits.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of civil engineering applied to municipal public works and construction.
• Land development planning and analysis for streets, storm drains, water and utilities.
• Public works contract administration including contract preparation and closeout.
• Field and construction survey techniques.
• Design and drafting methods and equipment.
• Engineering estimates, cost analysis and project budgeting.
• Construction including survey, inspection and contract administration.
• Supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local codes and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering work on municipal public works projects; plan, schedule and coordinate work on major or complex projects.
• Prepare plans, specifications, and costs for streets, storm drains, parks, signals and other capital projects.
• Prepare engineering reports concerning traffic related issues.
• Review construction plans, maps, reports, and development agreements.
• Provide information and respond to questions from the public, contractors, developers and City departments.
• Prepare grant funding applications and track funds.
• Check plans and specifications for accuracy and completeness.
• Prepare preliminary and final project cost estimates.
• Provide project management for construction projects to ensure contractor compliance with timelines and budgets.
• Coordinate engineering work with other City divisions, consultants and developers.
