Job summary

The City of Laguna Beach is seeking two Assistant Engineers to join its Public Works team. You will support planning, design, construction, and delivery of diverse public works projects while collaborating with residents, developers, and City staff.

Ideal candidates will have a civil engineering background, familiarity with AutoCAD/ArcGIS/BlueBeam, and a California driver’s license. EIT certification is desirable.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
• Experience: Some professional engineering experience is desirable.
• License/Certificate: California Driver’s License; Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate desirable.

Responsibilities

• Support planning, design, and delivery of public works and capital improvement projects from concept through construction.
• Review plans, permits, and technical documents to ensure compliance with City standards and regulations.
• Prepare reports, cost estimates, specifications, bid documents, and project schedules.
• Coordinate with consultants, contractors, developers, utility providers, regulatory agencies, and City departments.
• Assist with construction management, contract administration, field inspections, and issue resolution.
• Perform engineering analyses and provide technical recommendations for infrastructure improvements.
• Provide responsive customer service to residents, contractors, developers, and other stakeholders.
• Utilize engineering software and present technical information to staff, commissions, and the public.
