Job summary

The City of Hemet is seeking a motivated Assistant Civil Engineer to join our public works team and help shape the infrastructure for Hemet’s residents. You will assist with design, plan checks, specifications, and project coordination on streets, drainage, and facilities.

This role requires strong technical knowledge, the ability to analyze designs, and collaboration with developers, contractors, and city staff to ensure code compliance and timely project delivery.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to graduation from a four year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering.
• Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate California Driver's License and satisfactory driving record.
• Valid California certificate as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Designs and prepares drawings and engineering specs for street, sewer, storm sewer, sidewalks, lighting and public works projects.
• Performs plan checks and quantity/cost estimates for construction projects.
• Reviews plans for conformance with City requirements and issues permits as needed.
• Acts as project engineer on limited design contracts and prepares progress reports.
• May perform field surveying duties and assist in traffic studies and data collection.
