Job summary

Oregon Metro is hiring a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Metro South Transfer Station in the Portland area. You will operate heavy equipment, perform inspections, and support tipping floor operations in a busy public and industrial setting.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, 1–4 years of heavy equipment experience at a waste facility, and a CDL (tank endorsement for street sweepers). Outdoor work, safety awareness, and ability to lift up to 50 pounds are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CDL required; tank endorsement for street sweepers.
• Forklift certification within 1 year of hire.
• First Aid/CPR within 1 year of hire.
• Asbestos Awareness training within 1 year of hire.
• Bloodborne pathogens training within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate heavy equipment (dozers, loaders, compactors, roll‑offs, street sweepers).
• Perform pre/post trip inspections and report defects.
• Maintain routine maintenance and records.
• Work in high‑traffic, outdoor transfer station environment.
• Assist with transfer station duties and employee training.
