Job summary

Wallowa County seeks a Deputy Treasurer to join the Treasurer's Office and help protect and manage public funds. You will assist with accounting, banking, cash management and customer service while ensuring accurate Treasury operations.

Under the County Treasurer, you will support departments, maintain records, perform reconciliations, administer property taxes and run daily financial activities. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, trustworthy and customer-focused, with integrity in public

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Three years of accounting/finance experience; public sector preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Experience with accounting software; QuickBooks or governmental systems desirable.
• Strong mathematical and reconciliation skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
• Strong customer service and communication skills; able to interact with the public and officials.
• Must pass criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyze periodic county financial reports and bank reconciliations.
• Oversee day-to-day accounting including journal entries and review of staff transactions.
• Identify and report fiscal issues; recommend solutions.
• Use accounting software to prepare special reports as needed.
• Coordinate the County's Vital Records Program.
• Prepare billings and receive payments for water/sewer and solid waste services.
• Serve as acting Tax Collector and Treasurer in absence of the Tax Collector.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
