Job summary

The City of Memphis is seeking a library staff member to deliver exceptional customer service, support STEAM programs and community outreach, and provide readers' advisory services across library locations. Qualifications

• High school diploma and one year related work experience in a library service priority area.
• Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional customer service in a team environment aligned with the Library's brand promises.
• Plan, coordinate, develop, and implement library programs and STEAM activities.
• Provide public information and readers' advisory services.
• Work at various library agencies to assist with collection development and materials.
• Recommend reading materials and resources to library management.
• Assist customers with computers and identify materials in the collection.
• Provide basic circulation desk services as needed.
• Lift, carry, and stock books and materials; assist training staff and volunteers.

Hourly Rate : $15.00

Works under general supervision of an Agency Manager or other designated supervisory personnel. Woks in a team environment to provide exceptional customer service that is in line with the Library's Brand Promises (Welcoming, Fresh & Fun, Helpful, and Transformative). Plans, coordinates, develops, and implements library programs and community outreach activities, including STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) development, career development, cultural enrichment, life-long learning, and literacy development. Provides public information and readers' advisory services. Works at various library agencies to assist with the collection and development of library materials. Recommends appropriate reading materials and collection resources to library management. Works in teams with various library personnel to perform professional library services, such as assisting customers with computers, identifying materials in a collection, etc. Provides basic circulation desk services, as needed. Lifts and carries books, supplies, or materials to assist customers. Stocks library shelves with books and reading materials. Assists in training staff and volunteers, as assigned.

High school diploma and one (1) year related work experience in a Library service priority area, such as STEAM development, job & career development, cultural enrichment, life-long learning, and literacy development; or any combination of experience or training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Bachelor's degree preferred.
