Job summary

The City of Long Beach, CA is seeking a Supervisory Landscape Maintenance role to oversee maintenance on public streets and grounds. You will supervise crews, plan work, and enforce safety and contract standards while ensuring quality planting, pruning and pest control efforts.

Requirements include three years of related experience and a California Class B license within six months of appointment; knowledge of horticulture, pest control, and safety practices is expected.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of ornamental horticulture, arboriculture, pest control and safety practices.
• Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
• Ability to operate a computer.
• Working knowledge of City supported databases, work order systems, spreadsheets, and word processing applications.

Responsibilities

• Supervises landscape maintenance, tree maintenance, irrigation systems maintenance and pest control on public streets and grounds.
• Plans, assigns and supervises the work of employees engaged in trimming, pruning, spraying, planting and removing trees and landscape plantings; instructs employees in proper use of pesticides, fertilizers, tools and related equipment.
• Maintains records; prepares reports; monitors contract compliance; ensures contractors fulfill obligations.
• Interviews, selects, trains, evaluates and disciplines subordinates; ensures safety rules and regulations are followed.
