Job summary

City of Long Beach is seeking a supervisor for landscape and tree maintenance, irrigation systems, and pest control on public streets and grounds. You will lead crews, assign tasks, and enforce safety procedures while ensuring quality workmanship.

The role requires coordinating with contractors, maintaining records, and reporting on labor, materials, and safety compliance. A California license and experience in supervisory duties are preferred.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of ornamental horticulture, arboriculture, pest control and safety practices.
• Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
• Ability to operate a computer.
• Working knowledge of City supported databases, work order systems, spreadsheets, and word processing applications.

Responsibilities

• Supervise landscape maintenance, tree maintenance, irrigation systems maintenance and pest control on public streets and grounds.
• Plan, assign and supervise the work of employees engaged in trimming, pruning, spraying, planting and removing trees and landscape plantings; instruct in use of pesticides and fertilizers.
• Establish operating procedures and work standards; develop safe working practices and enforce safety rules incl. traffic control measures.
• Evaluate and estimate job requirements, labor and material needs; ensure supplies and equipment are provided.
• Interview, select, train, evaluate and discipline subordinates; maintain records and prepare reports.
• Monitor contract compliance and respond to inquiries regarding contract activities.
