Job summary

The District of Columbia Public Library seeks a Library Associate (Floater) to support paraprofessional functions across DCPL locations. This part-time, systemwide role requires flexibility to work at any of our 26 branches, with assignments based on coverage needs, programs, and absences.

You will assist customers with library resources and basic tech tasks, help librarians with programs, maintain a welcoming environment, and perform routine clerical duties.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Minimum of 1 year of direct, in-person customer service experience.
• Experience using computers and related technology in a work environment.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and tact in applying policies and procedures.
• Ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct customer service to library customers and assistance in using the library and its resources.
• Assists library customers with routine technology use (printing, scanning, emailing, etc.).
• Assists librarians in preparation, promotion, delivery, and evaluation of programs and outreach.
• Assists in collection movement and maintenance (shelving, shelving, processing materials).
• Maintains a welcoming library environment.
• Performs routine clerical/administrative functions.
