Job summary

The Kings County District Attorney’s Office (KCDA) in Brooklyn seeks a Paralegal for its Hate Crimes Bureau. The role supports investigations, prepares subpoenas and production orders, and gathers essential case documents from NYPD, FDNY, and other agencies.

You’ll contact witnesses, coordinate with investigators and court staff, monitor discovery, and assist ADAs as needed. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or an associate degree with 2–4 years paralegal experience or a Paralegal Certification.
  • Must be able to perform paralegal duties under supervision and independent initiative as outlined in the job description.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare misdemeanors and felonies for trial and grand jury presentations.
  • Prepare subpoenas, orders to produce, unsealing orders, and other required requests.
  • Obtain case documents and footage from NYPD, FDNY, body worn cameras, grand jury minutes, medical records and related materials.
  • Contact civilian witnesses and notify officers for grand jury and trial appearances.
  • Ensure witnesses are produced timely by correspondence, notices, calls, or field team requests.
  • Liaise with court staff and community partners; monitor discovery materials.
  • Provide backup coverage for other paralegal staff; provide administrative support.
  • Maintain and archive case files per records retention policies.

Education

Bachelor’s degree or higher (or equivalent)
Associate degree + 2–4 years related paralegal experience
ABA-approved Paralegal Certification
