Job summary

City of Bridgeton seeks a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join the finance team in Bridgeton, Missouri. This role supports accurate financial records, journal entries, reconciliations, and timely financial reporting for a municipal government.

Responsibilities include payroll processing, budget assistance, and collaboration with other departments to ensure compliance with GAAP and city policies. This position offers growth within public financial management and a stable government work

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a closely related field; equivalent education and relevant experience may be considered.
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and fundamental accounting practices.
• Experience with account reconciliations, journal entries, financial records, and reporting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other standard office applications.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll and ensure payroll is accurately posted to the general ledger.
• Prepare and post journal entries and maintain accurate general ledger accounts.
• Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and other financial records.
• Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
• Monitor revenues, expenditures, and account balances to identify discrepancies and ensure accuracy.
• Assist with the preparation of the City's annual budget and financial statements.
• Support the annual financial audit by preparing schedules, providing documentation, and responding to auditor requests.
• Review financial transactions, invoices, and supporting documentation for accuracy and compliance with established procedures.
• Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other accounting functions as assigned.
• Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and recommend process improvements.
• Collaborate with Finance Department staff and other City departments to support effective financial operations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
