Job summary

City of Missouri City is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join the Finance team. This mid-level, full-time role supports the City’s financial operations, from general ledger maintenance to journalEntries and reconciliations.

The position leads accounting workflows, prepares audit schedules, and collaborates with internal/external stakeholders to ensure accuracy and compliance. Strong Excel skills and municipal finance experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of five (5) years of verifiable professional experience in governmental accounting or finance within public or municipal organizations.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are required.
• CPA license is preferred; CPFO or CGFO credentials are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the lead for financial accounting transactions for the City.
• Prepare audit schedules and respond to internal and external audit requests.
• Prepare journal entries and month-end/year-end adjusting entries.
• Reconcile monthly cash activities and bank accounts.
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities and payroll processing.
• Maintain internal controls and review accounting assignments for accuracy.
