Job summary

City of Austin is seeking a Project Manager to coordinate the design, development, and execution of large administrative projects under minimal supervision. You will manage staffing, procurement of consultants, and reporting to top city officials.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree and six years of progressively responsible project management experience; CIP experience is preferred. You will deliver presentations and provide technical guidance to management and external partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and six years of progressively responsible work experience in managing projects.
• Experience managing Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) in all phases from pre-planning to post-occupancy.
• Municipality experience representing employer at City Councils, Boards, and Commission Meetings, including media communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manages the design, development, and implementation of projects including gathering requirements and staffing.
• Negotiates consultant contracts, terms, and fees; approves deliverables and payments.
• Develops short- and long-range plans; estimates timelines for start-up and completion.
• Monitors contracts and contractors for compliance; administers change orders and estimates.
• Coordinates reports for City Manager’s Office, Mayor, and City Council; prepares agenda material.
• Prepares and delivers presentations to City Manager, management team, and department directors.
• Suggests and implements management solutions to address city-wide challenges.
• Leads professional staff in organizational reviews and operations research.
• Assists in planning and coordinating department work plans; assigns projects.
• Provides technical advice to City management and external parties.
