Job summary

The City of Montgomery, AL seeks a senior technical authority in accounting to lead GAAP- and GASB-compliant financial reporting and the integrity of financial data across all funds.

You will interpret technical accounting standards, oversee major Citywide reporting processes, and guide system improvements and automated workflows to support strategic decision-making. This role reports to the Chief Financial Officer and works with auditors, IT staff, and department leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in governmental accounting, financial reporting, or auditing.
• Experience with GAAP and GASB standards and public sector financial management.
• Experience leading projects or supervisory roles with ERP systems and reporting tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee GAAP- and GASB-compliant financial reporting for all funds.
• Interpret and apply technical accounting standards and maintain data integrity.
• Develop and implement financial reporting strategies and automated workflows.
• Collaborate with CFO, IT, auditors, and department leaders to strengthen financial operations.
