Job summary

Regional School District 17 – Higganum, CT is seeking an experienced Financial Accounting & Reporting Manager to ensure the district's financial accuracy, compliance, and audit readiness.

The role oversees district accounting and financial reporting, coordinates the annual audit, and serves as administrator for the district's financial software system, collaborating closely with the Director of Finance on special projects.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years in accounting, preferably in public accounting firm.
• CPA licensure preferred.
• Municipal or regional school district accounting and/or auditing experience required, CPA preferred.
• Ability to prioritize daily tasks and meet timely obligations.
• Knowledge of complex accounting processes, journal entries, and advanced mathematical skills.
• Skilled in setting up and maintaining various accounting/financial management software platforms, and troubleshooting common accounting program problems.
• Strong organizational skills and effective problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication skills are required, including written, verbal, and conflict resolution proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Oversee district accounting and financial reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Prepare monthly and annual financial statements.
• Coordinate the district's annual audit process.
• Review and reconcile accounts and transactions.
• Serve as administrator for the district's financial software system, working closely with the Director of Finance on special projects and process improvements.
