Job summary

The New York City Housing Development Corporation (HDC) seeks a Director of Accounting and Finance to provide leadership over financial transactions, systems, and reporting, ensuring alignment with the Corporation’s goals and requirements. This role reports to the EVP & CFO.

Responsibilities include guiding accounting staff, reviewing complex financial transactions, enhancing reporting accuracy, and coordinating with auditors. A CPA or advanced degree is preferred; MBA in Finance is also a plus.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in Accounting/Finance.
• Proficiency in accounting principles; GASB knowledge a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance and analytical support to accounting staff on recording new types of financial transactions.
• Review and analyze financial transactions for accurate accounting including mortgage, bond, and investment transactions.
• Review general ledger activity, reconciliations, accruals and other accounts for unusual trends or errors.
• Read and interpret mortgage and bond documents to set up complex financial transactions in the general ledger and discuss documents with other departments.
• Drive process improvements, automate routine tasks, and strengthen financial reporting accuracy.
• Analyze quarterly and year-end financial statements and prepare summaries of financial activities.
• Develop financial modeling tools to measure and forecast scenarios, risks, and changes.
• Assist in managing the year-end financial statement audit process with external auditors.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
• Develop processes, policies, and controls for operational standards and timely, compliant financial operations.
• Support external reporting under Public Authorities Accountability Act (PAAA).
• Guide other departments on internal controls, procedures, and policies to ensure proper financial activities.
• Serve as finance liaison to interpret financial data for corporate decision making.
• Manage other special projects as assigned by CFO and Controller.
