Job summary

The State of Colorado is seeking a Department Controller to lead and direct the accounting functions within the department, ensuring a comprehensive and unified approach to financial reporting. You will supervise a team of controllers, accountants, and accounting technicians, and coordinate with executive management and auditors.

This role requires nine years of accounting/auditing experience (including supervisory), a CPA or similar credential, and a post-graduate degree.

Qualifications

Nine+ years of accounting and auditing experience, including at least two years in supervision.
Governmental accounting and reporting experience is required.
Experience with large financial systems (CORE or equivalent).
CPA or similar credential is preferred.
Post-graduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or MBA is preferred.
Excellent written communication skills.
Strong MS Excel knowledge is essential.

Responsibilities

Lead and direct the department's accounting functions and financial reporting.
Approve design and implementation of the system of accounts and related controls.
Direct internal audits and provide defense of financial data to management and auditors.
Prepare annual budgets and respond to requests from executive and legislative bodies.
