Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) seeks a Budget Director to lead the agency's budget development, execution, and forecasting. You will coordinate annual operating and personnel budgets, provide timely financial information to executive leadership, and monitor appropriations, expenditures, and revenues throughout the fiscal year.

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in a related field and strong knowledge of governmental budgeting, with experience in budget systems

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field.
• Extensive knowledge of governmental budgeting, financial management, accounting principles, and fiscal controls.
• Experience with SCEIS or comparable enterprise financial systems.

Responsibilities

• Serves as the Agency's lead for budget planning, execution and management.
• Establishes agency-wide budget calendars, procedures, reporting requirements, and deadlines.
• Provides guidance to executive leadership on budget development and funding availability.
• Identifies financial risks and recommends executive-level actions.
• Leads development of the annual budget request and coordinates funding actions.
• Reviews funding requests for reasonableness and alignment with priorities.
• Prepares budget documentation and analyses for executive offices and state partners.
• Supports hearings, legislative review, and appropriations processes.
• Monitors expenditures, revenues, and personnel costs throughout the year.
