Job summary

Gulf Coast Protection District (GCPD) seeks a detail-oriented Accounts Payable Specialist to join the Budget, Accounting, and Reporting team. This role handles vendor invoices, contractor pay apps, and maintains vendor profiles with an emphasis on governmental accounts payable practices, internal controls, and grant-funded expenditures.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• Minimum of two to three (2-3) years of accounts payable or general accounting experience.
• Working knowledge of accounts payable best practices, including invoice matching, coding, and internal controls.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general ledger/ERP systems.
• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Receive, review, and process vendor invoices, contractor pay applications, and reimbursement requests for accuracy and supporting documentation.
• Match invoices to purchase orders, contracts, and receiving documentation and resolve discrepancies before payment.
• Code invoices to fund, department, project, and grant or cooperative agreement lines per chart of accounts.
• Prepare and process payment runs (checks, ACH, wire) per policies and signer requirements.
• Maintain audit-ready accounts payable files and assist with month-end close and reporting.
