Job summary

City of Chesapeake in Virginia seeks a senior accounting professional to perform advanced financial duties in a municipal context. Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting or closely related field; a master’s degree is preferred, and CPA certification is desirable.

The role requires at least three years of related full-time experience, knowledge of government accounting practices, and proficiency with PeopleSoft, Munis, UKG, Outlook and Excel. Emergency operations coverage may be required.

Qualifications

• Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in accounting or closely related field.
• Master’s degree in accounting, business, public administration or a related field desired.
• Minimum of three years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
• Certified Public Accountant certification desired.
• Requires valid driver’s license and driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards.
• Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
• Accounting and procurement experience in a local government agency preferred.
