Job summary

City of Charlottesville seeks a Senior Accountant to perform advanced financial accounting, analysis, and reporting for the Department of Social Services. This exempt role reports to the DSS Deputy Director and participates in budgeting, audits, and financial statements.

The position requires strong GAAP knowledge, ERP proficiency (SAP preferred), and the ability to liaison with multiple agencies. Comprehensive benefits and retirement options are provided.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field with 5 years accounting experience.
• Two years of college coursework with 7 years accounting experience.
• Equivalent education/experience considered.

Responsibilities

• Reconciles funds and accounts and reports discrepancies per GAAP.
• Plans and monitors monthly/annual budgets and projections.
• Liaises with other departments to resolve accounting issues.
• Maintains GAAP compliance and reviews accounting policies.
• Prepares financial reports for City, State, and Federal agencies.
• Supports external auditors and internal control reviews.
• Leads portions of the annual financial reporting process.
• Performs internal audits of payroll, AP, and grants.
