Job summary

County of Santa Barbara seeks Accountants I/II to support professional accounting duties in the Sheriff’s Office and Probation Department. You will examine, analyze, maintain, reconcile, and verify financial records while supporting budget development and grant management.

Incumbents learn the full scope of duties, including preparing financial statements, working with auditors and data processing personnel, and applying County policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration (or related field).
• AA degree in accounting or business administration with six semester units in Intermediate Accounting and two years paraprofessional accounting experience.
• A combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to the above employment standards.

Responsibilities

• Participates in budgeting and budgetary controls; assists in developing and reviewing grant budgets.
• Prepares detailed accounting and financial statements requiring analysis.
• Reviews grants, contracts, and proposals for financial soundness and adherence to GAAP and County policies.
• Collects data on costs and helps set rates and fees.
• Recommends and assists in implementing new accounting systems and procedures.
