Job summary

Wayne County NY is seeking a professional to oversee accounting, auditing and fiscal management duties within the agency. You will supervise accounts, maintain ledgers, prepare reports, and assist with annual budgeting and audits.

The role requires strong knowledge of governmental accounting, budgeting, and reporting, with the ability to work independently and guide clerical staff as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business admin, economics or related field for fiscal responsibilities
• Associate degree with 18 semester credits in accounting and 2 years related experience
• High school diploma and 4 years accounting/auditing experience with double-entry accounting
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience

Responsibilities

• Supervises maintenance of various accounts reflecting financial operation of the County/department
• Performs general accounting duties: general ledger, journal entries, fund balances, bank reconcil.
• Develops or assists in new accounting procedures for audit trail of transactions
• Assists with collection and balancing functions
• Assists with annual audit and financial reporting
• Assists with agency payroll functions as needed
• Assists in organizing and preparing annual budget including revenue estimates
• Prepares annual reports as appropriate
• Keeps informed of economic trends and advises on financial planning and investments
• Coordinates data processing operations related to accounting functions
• Makes recommendations to reduce costs and increase revenues based on trends
