Job summary

Vallejo City Unified School District is seeking a Payroll Technician for a temporary, full-time assignment of 3–6 months. The role supports the Payroll Supervisor in preparing timely district payrolls and maintaining payroll records.

The position requires high school graduation with college coursework and two years of accounting experience, preferably in a public-school setting, and involves compliance with payroll laws and district policies.

Qualifications

• Accounting and payroll record-keeping practices.
• Proficiency with Escape Software (Escape Online/Frontline Education).
• Strong financial and statistical record-keeping skills.
• Advanced Excel spreadsheet proficiency.
• Word processing and general office software proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and process the District payroll records.
• Process specialized payroll transactions and related services; handle retired/terminated employees.
• Communicate with District departments to resolve discrepancies and correct errors.
• Collaborate with Human Resources for proper salary payments.
• Verify pay calculations and leave documentation.
• Update payroll data in computer systems.
• Assist in payroll-related reports and annual/quarterly filings.
• Reconcile payroll errors and discrepancies.
• Manage benefits and voluntary deductions.
