City of Rock Island seeks a Telecommunicator to operate public safety radio systems, receive and transmit radio/phone messages, and dispatch ambulance, fire, and police personnel. You will use computer terminals to document activities and support city departments with information while maintaining calm, professional communication in routine and emergency situations.

Initial supervision gives way to independent work; residency in IL or IA is required and LEADS Certification must be obtained.

Qualifications

High school diploma (or GED) and some college coursework in police science.
Experience as a telephone operator, dispatcher, or similar work.
Ability to learn radio, telephone, computer and related equipment.
Residency requirement: live in Illinois or Iowa and report within 60 minutes for overtime.
Must attain LEADS Certification.

Responsabilités

Monitor public safety radio and broadcasts; handle calls for medical, fire, and police services.
Create computer records of daily officer and fire activities.
Dispatch nearest units and coordinate responses to incidents.
Maintain maps and provide information to the public and other city departments.
Train new telecommunicators as assigned.
Perform tasks like warrants, daily reports, and entering field interrogation cards.
Provide effective customer service and promote community relations.
