Qualifications

• Graduation from high school (or GED) and some college coursework in police science.
• Experience as a telephone operator, dispatcher, or similar work; or any equivalent training and experience providing knowledge of radio, telephone, and computer operations.
• Ability to learn the principles involved in operating radio, telephone, computer, and related equipment.

Responsibilities

• Receive and transmit radio and telephone messages; dispatch ambulance, fire, and police personnel.
• Operate communications equipment to provide prompt and effective responses to calls for service in routine and emergency situations; follow SOPs.
• Assign backup assistance and deploy the nearest appropriate public safety response; maintain records and data entry.
• Monitor crime information data systems (NCIC/LEADS) and update computerized files.
