Job summary

The City of New York's Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH) seeks a Special Officer to provide security, safety, and order within agency premises. Under supervision, you will patrol locations, assist visitors, document incidents, and monitor security systems to safeguard life and property.

Applicants must be permanent City employees or eligible to apply, hold a high school diploma, and meet New York Peace Officer training requirements.

Qualifications

• A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a state's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization.
• Individuals serving in this title are designated as Peace Officers by the New York State Criminal Procedure Law; must satisfy the training requirements for Peace Officers and obtain certification.

Responsibilities

• Patrols designated areas to maintain order, safeguard life and property, and deter crime.
• Gives routine information to visitors and directs them to proper contacts.
• Prepare and write incident reports, maintain daily logs and document safety hazards.
• Screens employees and visitors, operate and monitor security equipment.
• Ensure health and safety protocols are met by members of the public.
• Discourage and eject disorderly persons and, when appropriate, arrest violators on premises.
• Transport, escort, and arrange transport of persons in custody to police precinct; prepare related documents.
