Job summary

Pima County’s Wireless Integrated Network department seeks a Radio Frequency Network Engineer to design, maintain, and support the countywide public safety radio system. The role ensures dispatch centers stay connected and towers operate at peak performance through inspections, maintenance, and testing, including drone-based site checks.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting network gear, power systems, servers, and encryption tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, MIS, or related field.
• Three years of experience configuring, monitoring, and managing networking equipment.
• Or four years of experience as Land Mobile Radio Systems Analyst I/II.
• Qualifying education and experience must be documented in the Education and Work Experience sections.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots, reloads images, and repairs advanced network equipment (routers, switches, firewalls).
• Troubleshoots MPLS Microwave Network connecting PCWIN radio sites and dispatch centers.
• Identifies power issues with test equipment (battery plants, rectifiers, power).
• Maintains radio and dispatch site environmental alarms; performs repairs.
• Troubleshoots server issues on Windows and Linux systems.
• Tests grounding systems and adheres to R56 standards.
• Oversees tower safety and guides crews on antenna/network equipment remediation.
• Troubleshoots AES encryption tools for loading/using encryption.
• Manages equipment, upgrades projects, and communicates progress to management and customers.
• Uses monitoring tools to troubleshoot and perform annual Project 25 maintenance.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, MIS, or closely related field

Four years of experience as Land Mobile Radio Systems Analyst I or II (Pima County)
