Job summary

The Strongsville Police Department is seeking a motivated police officer to patrol the community, respond to calls for service, and enforce criminal and traffic laws. The ideal candidate will have OPOTA certification, be capable of operating with limited supervision, and communicate effectively in reports and testimony.

You must meet eligibility criteria, pass physical agility, and successfully complete background, polygraph, medical, and drug screenings.

Qualifications

  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • OPOTA certified as an Ohio Peace Officer.
  • Currently working or recently worked as an OPOTA-certified officer (minimum 30 hours/week).
  • Pass physical agility test.
  • Background, polygraph, psychological, medical, and drug screenings required.
  • One of: Bachelor's Degree, four years of US Army/Navy/Air Force/Marine/Coast Guard service, or four years of OPOTA-certified Ohio Peace Officer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol the community to deter and detect criminal activity.
  • Respond to calls for service.
  • Document allegations of a crime; protect persons and property.
  • Conduct preliminary and continued investigations (traffic and criminal).
  • Search for and collect physical evidence; interview witnesses and victims.
  • Enforce traffic laws; issue citations or warnings.
  • Enforce criminal laws by arrest or non-arrest dispositions; testify in court.
  • Answer emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
  • Investigate crimes by obtaining statements and processing scenes.
  • Write reports on incidents, arrests, and crashes; prepare charges.
  • Serve warrants; handle prisoners and jailer duties.
  • Promote crime prevention and police-community relations.
