Job summary

The Sioux Falls Police Department invites applications for Police Officer. You will perform general police work to protect life and property, conduct investigations, respond to emergencies, and engage in public education programs.

Eligibility includes SD certification eligibility, U.S. citizenship, age 21–44, and educational/experience pathways. Benefits include health/dental insurance, lifetime pension, holidays and leave.

Qualifications

• Must be eligible for certification under the South Dakota Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Training Commission.
• Must be a United States citizen.
• Applicant must be at least 21 and no greater than 44 at interview.
• Associate’s degree or at least 60 semester hours of college credits; or two years of certified law enforcement experience; or two years of military experience; or combination acceptable to hiring authority.
• Has not unlawfully used any prescribed drug, controlled substance, or marijuana within one year before application for certification.
• Must have no convictions punishable by imprisonment.
• Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license.
• Vision correctable to at least 20/40 in each eye; color recognition of red/green/amber.
• Hearing ability: detect whispered voice at 5 feet with/without hearing aid; no greater than 40 dB loss at 500, 1,000, 2,000 Hz.
• Must pass all phases of hiring as designated by Civil Service Board.
• EOE.
