Job summary

Indiana University Health System in Indianapolis is seeking a Full-Time Public Safety Officer to patrol facilities, respond to calls, enforce policies, and guide guests and staff. Shift is 6am–6pm, onsite at Gateway Plaza in the Downtown area within Public Safety.

You will conduct rounds, document incidents, assist in de-escalation, and contribute to a safe healthcare environment by completing required reports and maintaining logs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 0–2 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Must possess a current Indiana driver's license.
• No felony, domestic violence, or violent misdemeanor convictions.
• Must pass pre-employment background investigation, drug screening and psych exam.

Responsibilities

• Conducts rounding and foot/vehicle patrols of IU Health properties.
• Responds to calls for service and enforces IU Health policies.
• Provides direction to team members, guests and patients; de-escalates tense situations.

Areas of Patrol for this role: Downtown patrol responsibilities.

Primary Responsibilities:

Conducts rounding and foot and vehicle patrols in and around properties that are owned, leased or occupied by IU Health. Responds to calls for service. Enforces and assists in the enforcement of IU Health rules, regulations and policies. Provides direction and guidance to team members, guests and patients. Assists teams with de-escalating tense, uncertain and emotional situations. Investigates criminal activity and vehicle crashes as needed. Maintains records and logs and completes written reports as required. Performs physical security screening as required. Creates a safe healthcare environment for team members, patients and guests. Performs other duties as assigned by the chain of command.

Candidate Requirements:

• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• Requires 0-2 years of relevant experience.
• Requires current non-restricted Indiana Driver's License.
• Must not have convictions for felony, domestic violence or violent misdemeanor offenses.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment background investigation, drug screening and psychological exam.
• Requires working knowledge of computers and various software programs.
• Must be able to obtain NCIC/IDACS certification and access.
• Have never had law enforcement officer license denied by final order or revoked.
• Not currently on suspension or have a voluntary surrender of a law enforcement license currently in effect.
