Public Safety Officer

Job Overview

Patrol Officers report to the Patrol Coordinator to perform regular patrol and First Responder activities on the campus, adhering to prescribed standards of appearance, conduct, and efficiency. This is a full‑time position with a work shift of 11:00 pm‑7:00 am, Sunday‑Friday and pays $20 per hour.

Duties and Responsibilities

• First responders to campus emergencies, following SOP, managing incidents, rendering aid, requesting police, fire, and EMS assistance, and documenting actions.
• Patrol campus by foot, vehicle, or bicycle to deter suspicious activity.
• Conduct investigations of campus incidents, including interviewing witnesses, reviewing facts, notifying police as needed, initiating safety alerts, filing reports, photographing evidence, warning violators, detaining or expelling suspects.
• Perform parking enforcement in accordance with campus parking regulations.
• Attend public gatherings to maintain order.
• Assist police or fire in response and investigations.
• Lock and unlock buildings and offices, inspecting doors and windows for security.
• Assist Physical Plant with mechanical issues, documenting needs and noting hazards.
• Manage parking regulations and direct traffic at special functions.
• Wear a full Public Safety uniform, including ballistic‑resistant body armor.
• Complete all required training: first aid, bloodborne pathogens, baton, OC spray, CPR, control tactics, and handcuffing.
• Respond to medical emergencies and perform first aid care consistent with training.
• Participate in drills and emergency precautionary demonstrations.

Professional Qualifications

• Some college required / bachelor's degree preferred.
• Pass required background check and hold a valid driver’s license.

• Competent in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.
• Able to walk 3‑5 miles per shift, lift 40 lbs, and climb multiple flights of stairs.
• Pass required 5‑week field training.
• Able to respond first to campus emergencies with professionalism, urgency, and clear communication.
• Become proficient in the use of Public Safety and Police radio communication.
• Pass required first aid, AED, and CPR certification.
• Pass required blood‑borne pathogen training.
• Pass required control tactics training.
• Pass required hazardous material response training.
