Job summary

The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc. is seeking a part-time Public Safety Officer to patrol the campus, respond to emergencies, and provide Safe Walk escorts.

This role requires a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to pass background checks and medical examinations. Responsibilities include patrolling on foot and by vehicle, answering calls, assisting visitors, and preparing detailed incident reports.

Position Responsibilities

• Protection of life and property, and interdiction of criminalactivity through, high visibility, vehicular and foot patrol on thecampus and maintains log of all patrol activities.
• Uses Radio/telephone to answer all calls.
• Provides Shuttle transportation to Rail Stations, and otherareas assigned and maintains log of passengers.
• Regulates campus vehicular and pedestrian traffic to enhancesafety and expedite flow. Enforces University parkingregulations.
• Responds to emergency situations, including alarms, medicalemergencies, and crimes in progress and summons municipal Police,Fire, and EMS assistance when required.
• Identifies, reports, and resolves conditions and circumstancesthat are hazardous to people and property. Inspects buildings andproperties for proper maintenance and working order.
• Interacts with the community and visitors, acting as a goodwillambassador and rendering assistance where needed.
• Administers First Aid and CPR when necessary.
• Investigates crimes, accidents, and other noteworthy incidents,summoning the assistance of municipal services when indicated, andprepares and submits concise and comprehensive reports inaccordance with procedures.
• Secures and unlocks campus buildings in accordance withschedules and procedures.
• Provides Safe Walk escorts for members of the Community andvisitors.

Qualifications

• The Public Safety Officer must possess a High School diploma orGED and good work history required. The applicant must possess avalid driver’s license; have a clean driving record and at leastone year driving experience.
• Must be able to drive safely at night and in poor weather.
• Proven computer literacy (Microsoft Office Word, Excel),excellent written and verbal communications skills, arerequired.
• Must be capable of passing a background investigation includingcriminal records check and a physical and/or psychologicalexamination.
• Ability to follow instructions and get along with others.
• The physical demands of this position must be met by anemployee in order to successfully perform the essential functionsof this job. Heavy lifting a must (not in excess of 50pounds).
• Ability to sit or stand for prolonged period of time, must alsobe able to bend, stoop, squat, reach above shoulder level, kneel,lift and carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include closevision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability tofocus.
• Ability to talk, hear and walk without assistance.
• Ability to report to work for assigned shift and performrequired duties for a minimum of eight (8) hours per day.
