Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Chief and Assistant Chief of Police, the Public Safety Officer provides customer/guest-oriented management of the hospital environment to ensure public safety. Performs law enforcement duties, investigations, and crime prevention to protect life and property. Responsible for enforcing federal, state, and local laws, and demonstrating effective communication with patients, families, and visitors of all ages, respecting their cultural and religious beliefs.

Qualifications
Education/Skills: High school diploma or equivalent required; college preferred. Must communicate clearly, read/write thoroughly, and follow instructions. Continuing training required.
Work Experience: At least one year law enforcement experience preferred; extensive related work may suffice.
Certification/Licensure: Valid driver’s license required. MS Board of Law Enforcement Standards and Training Certification needed upon hire (part-time/PRN) or within 1 year (full-time).
Mental Demands: Ability to interact, make judgments, demonstrate initiative, and handle physical confrontations responsibly. Willingness to handle cadavers as part of routine morgue processing. Must conform to hospital standards.
